Holden's relationship with Phoebe

Holden's relationship with his sister Phoebe is the only relationship Holden has where he doesn't act all superior. With other people, he constantly tries to put himself above them, so he can cut himself off from human interaction. But with Phoebe, he is unable to do that, because she is the only person he thinks isn't phony. Actually, she has the opposite effect on him, because in a way, around her, Holden's "superiority" is diminished and she becomes, in a way, the more mature one of the two, even though she's 6 years younger than him.

Honestly, before I started reading this book, I though it would be like most other boring books assigned in class, but as I started reading I realized that this book was different. First of all, I could see why it was banned; because there are at least  10 curses on each page, and the different style of writing was a refreshing change. It's interesting to read from the narrator's point of view, because his thought processes are so different from what you'd expect, and yet they seem oddly familiar. He keeps talking about his random thoughts, which seemingly is mindless blabber, but it develops the character's personality. The book is full of "blabbering', and at the beginning it was intriguing to read, but after a certain point in the book, all these side thoughts become sort of an annoyance. I don't mean that I think they're pointless. I'm sure they still do have a meaning, and there must be a reason why the author wrote the book that way, but after a while, you just want to know what happens next in the story, and those seemingly pointless thoughts keep popping up.

Catcher in the rye

Why does Holden have such a troubled point of view of life? What made him so discontent about the future? Why does he keep failing and keep getting expelled out of every school? His personality and behavior give of the impression that he's cynical, and in a way, he's disinterested about life.
