Catcher in the rye

Why does Holden have such a troubled point of view of life? What made him so discontent about the future? Why does he keep failing and keep getting expelled out of every school? His personality and behavior give of the impression that he's cynical, and in a way, he's disinterested about life.

i really liked how this blog was written in all question form. i don't think that holden has a troubled point of view about life, i just think that he has suffered from many hardships in his life, which result in his personality being tougher from the outside. i believe that he keeps failing+getting kicked out of schools for attention; whether it be he doesn't receive it from his parents, i am not sure. i agree that his personality and behavior can give different impressions about him, but i think there is more to holden than meets the eye.

I think he's all messed up because Holden feels like he's a lost cause. Like, " i already failed, why should i try". Both his brother and sister are geniuses according to him. And since he goes to all of these boarding schools, he never sees his parents or anyone who gives him much guidence.

I think Holden has such a troubled view on life because of everything he has gone through. I think the death of his younger brother Allie plays a big part in why he has sucha bad outlook on life and his future.
